Week 1 (5/4 - 5/8) Consonant digraph: gh/ph f/ff Week 2 (5/11 - 5/15) Plural: s/es/ies *Add an 's' to make a noun plural. *Add 'es' to words that end with s, z, x, ch, or sh. *Add 'ies' to words that have a consonant + y ending. **REMEMBER to drop the y, and add ies** Week 3 (5/18 - 5/22) Vowel digraphs and dipthongs: oi/oy ou/ow/oo *A digraph is two letters that spell one sound. Digraphs that spell consonant sounds include the letter pairs sh, ch, th, wh, ck, ph, ng. Digraphs that spell vowel sounds include the letter pairs ai, ay, ee, ea, ie, ei, oo, ou. ow, oe, oo, ue, ey, ay, oy, oi, au, aw *A diphthong is one vowel sound formed by the combination of two vowel sounds. A diphthong begins as one vowel sound and moves toward another, such as the vowel sounds in coin or loud. Week 4 (5/26 - 5/29) *note: no school Monday REVIEW: consonant blends and diagraphs. *Consonant blends (also called consonant clusters) are groups of two or three consonants in words that makes a distinct consonant sound, such as "bl" or "spl". You can hear all of the sounds. * There are also digraphs that produce a distinct single sound. Some examples are: ph, sh, th, qu, ch, and wh. |
